Pancake Day

Pancake Day 2006 was a great success, and Major League are proud to have managed all aspects of the event for the third year.

Over 610 organisations around Queensland from Thursday Island to Weipa, Longreach and Stanthorpe hosted Pancake Day events on Tuesday, 28 February, raising much needed funds for UnitingCare Qld and its service agencies including Lifeline Community Care, Blue Care, the Wesley Missions and five hospitals.

The 2006 Corporate Breakfast was a huge success, with 210 people attending a pancake breakfast at the Carlton Crest Hotel. Modern Day poet Rupert McCall was the MC of the event, and Channel Nine’s Heather Foord officially launched the event. Brisbane Lions player Anthony Corrie showed his off-field skills by defeating Richard Champion and Australian softballer Brooke Wilkins in a pancake flipping competition to the delight of everyone who attended. Anthony flipped a pancake 191 times in two minutes – just shy of the world record of 241.

Pancake Day 2006 continued in King George Square throughout the day, as over 50 volunteers cooked and sold around 2500 pancakes to the general public. Despite the rain a great time was had by all, and Pancake Day 2006 was another success!
