An incredible 6,000 Indigenous job seekers have attended the first four 2009 Former Origin Greats Indigenous Employment and Careers Expos held in Townsville, Rockhampton, Cairns and Mackay. With over 100 exhibitors involved in the expos, the momentum is set to build as the event moves to Mount Isa and Brisbane.
Indigenous job seekers and school leavers have enjoyed the opportunity to rub shoulders with some Rugby League royalty including Queensland 'Team of the Century' members Arthur Beetson, Allan Langer, Mal Meninga and Gene Miles.
Fellow Origin legends to appear at the expos have included Sam Backo, Kerry Boustead, Chris Close, Greg Conescu, Greg Dowling, Mick Hancock, Alan McIndoe, Matt Sing and Wendell Sailor.
Major League have proudly supplied event management services for the six expos including exhibitor recruitment, event promotion and media PR management.
The most recent expo, staged in Mackay last week, featured an appearance by home grown hero Wendell Sailor (pictured). Sailor spent the day talking with Indigenous job seekers and encouraging them embrace the future through the 33 employers and training providers present on the day.
A Mackay sporting hero, Sailor first played for the Sarina Football Club as an eight-year-old and made his first grade debut as an eighteen-year-old for the Brisbane Broncos. Sailor has played five State of Origin series, 191 first grade rugby league games and 40 first grade rugby union games.
Sailor enjoyed the opportunity to talk one-on-one with students about overcoming challenges and embracing the future.
"Being part of the FOGS is about putting the community back into the game," Sailor said.
"I have had a colourful life, which has been full of good things and some bad things.
"For me, you don't just talk about the good things - kids are very honest and some will ask a lot about my suspension.
"I tell them that the future all comes back to your accountability and what you want to do with your life," he said.
The appearance by Sailor enabled Major League to secure blanket media coverage prior to the event including front page coverage in Mackay's main newspaper the Daily Mercury.

The Queensland Firebirds team is experiencing soaring popularity and it's the perfect time for sponsors to capitalise on their rising status.
The Firebirds have flourished since Major League developed and managed their successful 2008 rebranding campaign, which is currently a Queensland finalist in the Australian Marketing Institute (AMI) Awards for Marketing Excellence for Brand Revitalisation.
The team rebranding coincided with the inauguration of the ANZ Championship, which also saw the Firebirds adopt the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre as their home venue, and One HD and Network Ten significantly raise the sport's profile as a spectator sport by delivering games into Australian lounge rooms each week.
Major League is currently working with Netball Queensland to seek sponsors to align with the Queensland Firebirds and Netball Queensland in 2010 and beyond, and has successfully engaged Intercontintental Hotel Group (IHG) as the organisation's accommodation partner.
Any organisations interested in developing a relationship with the Firebirds should contact Amanda at Major League (

It is with great pleasure that I announce that Major League turned 10 this past August... and what a 10 years it has been!
There are not many businesses that can boast a range of relationships as expansive as that of Major League.
Our association with sporting organisations ranges from the Brisbane Broncos to Softball Queensland, from the Former Origin Greats (FOGS) to the Brisbane Roar and the Queensland Firebirds to the Hockeyroos and Kookaburras.
In addition, we are also proudly associated with a premium selection of non-sporting clients including AMX Australia, Dingo Australia, Stockland, Vincents Chartered Accountants, CAP Security and Videopro.
We have come a long way from the days of me sitting in an office at the State Hockey Centre by myself with a computer and phone.
Hockey Queensland were our first client, introduced to me by Paul 'Porky' Morgan, who had an enormous influence on me and provided me with numerous opportunities early in my career. However, he always reminded me that he could open the door, but the rest was up to me!
Major League Marketing has in recent years gone from strength to strength, now employing 5 fulltime staff and assisting a wide variety of sporting and non-sporting clients.
I am very proud of what Major League has been able to achieve. We have a great reputation in the marketing industry and all of this is due to the capabilities and commitment of Major League's staff.
I wish to thank the many people that have assisted us in achieving our goals as an organisation.
